My Favorite Beauty Products/Trends of 2020

Well what a year it’s been… Probably the worst of the worst but at least I got to spend most of it lounging in the comfort of my home treating myself . And these few beauty products/trends really helped make my year a bit more bearable and exciting (hey what can I say? I am an easily impressed girl). Now some of these are probably not super popular and/or have been around for a while but I decided to write them down and share my favorites finds of this year

Microblading

I’ve always been very insecure about my eyebrows due to the destruction I did to them back in middle school. I had naturally thick, dark eyebrows in middle school but I saw so many people with thin, light eyebrows and I was envious. So my 12-year-old naïve self decided to pluck the hell out of them until they were thin strips of hair. I continued to do this until high school where I would also bleach my eyebrows lighter. Neither was a good look… However, they have grown back and are just as dark as they were before. There are still some gaps of missing hair and it just takes forever to grow. I was never comfortable just leaving the house unless my eyebrows were filled in and everything. I decided to turn to Microblading and it was one of the best decisions of my life. The results were amazing! It looked so natural and made me comfortable with my brows. It’s also now one less thing I have to worry about for my morning routine.

Vitamin C Serums/Creams

Earlier this year, I was so stressed out with the pandemic, work, and my anxiety. It was not a good time which resulted in a massive purge fest on my face. Now I have a mild case of acne where I get a few breakouts during certain times of the month, but this… this was something else! I had painful bumps on my chin and cheeks along with whiteheads. Seeing a dermatologist was super helpful and helped get my skin back to normal. However, I was stuck with dark spots and hyperpigmentation that I knew was going to take forever to go away. My prescribed retinol cream was working but I wanted to find something that could help speed up the process and that I could use in the mornings. I decided to try some vitamin C products. With a little bit of patience and sticking to it, I was starting to see results and getting back to the skin I missed!

These are my my favorite vitamin c products. The Derma-E serum, the Sunday Riley hydration cream, and the Murad SPF moisturizer. I don’t use them every single day but I love to switch them in/out of my routine every other week.

Micellar Water

I’ve always been the type of girl that would either use makeup wipes or just a washcloth and soap to take my makeup off at the end of the day. However, makeup wipes are horrible for the environment and using a washcloth/soap can be a bit to harsh on the skin and burn my eyes. I decided to turn to micellar water and I was in for a surprise. It was so gentle on my skin and is way more environmental friendly when used with a cotton pad. Micellar water successfully took all my makeup off and I would then be able to go in after with my favorite cleanser to clean off my skin/pores.

The Garnier and Simple micellar water can be found at any drug store or any store like Target or Walmart. You can also find them for cheap at places like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross.

Brown Eyeliner

So I know brown eyeliner has been around for decades, but I was new to it. I mean, I’ve only ever used black eyeliner on my waterline most of my life that I’ve been wearing makeup. I was afraid it wouldn’t look good with my eyes, however I was totally wrong. I didn’t go out of my way to buy these as these were sent to me in one of my monthly Ipsy bags. I was hesitant at first but I went ahead and tried them out. It was a very subtle color that wasn’t harsh and it brought out my Hazel eyes way more than a black eyeliner would, in my opinion. I was sold! It was very natural looking (in terms of makeup) and I have been using it ever since.

Both of these eyeliners are from Araceli. The lighter one is the color Cinnamon and the darker one is Chocolate.

Sheet Masks

So I always use sheet masks but I feel like 2020 was THE year for sheet masks. With me being home most of the time due to the pandemic, I felt the best way to do some self-care was to try different sheet masks. They’re just so refreshing and great for moisturizing dull skin. It was like I was at the spa getting a luxurious facial, without actually paying the high-end price for one. Most face masks cost $2-$3 so it was very budget-friendly and I always chose the ones that were geared to specifically hydrate my skin. I would use one once or twice a week as I didn’t want to affect my consistent morning routine. My skin would have a nice glow to it afterwards and it was just a great little treat to myself that I always looked forward to.

So I’ve had way more that I’ve used from what is shown in the picture above, but I wanted to show a few examples of what I have used. The TONYMOLY I’m Rice mask sheet, the Simple hydrating sheet mask, the Avette Daily Fresh Squeeze mask, and last but not least the STARSKIN Close-Up Firming mask.
